How to Save Money on Wedding Décor

Wedding décor is a great way to reflect the theme of the wedding, so getting it just right is important. But first, here's how I did it. I thought I wanted to BUY everything frugally myself. I thought that if I saved enough Michael's coupons or went thrifting that it would all come together. I didn't realize how much it cost to rent a wedding arch for the beach was or how much gas I would waste going back and forth to find random wedding decor. Here are some quick tips:

You could find a wedding planner that has a studio with items that you can use. You might think that a wedding planner is the absolute opposite idea for “saving money,” but I assure you that they can help. Not only do wedding planners suggest budget-friendly vendors, but they often have access to everything that you could ever want for your wedding. Think table runners for reception tables, beautiful archways and burlap ribbons, and even the small details like ceremony items might be available when you book your own wedding planner.

How to Save Money on Wedding Décor

1. Buy wholesale. Check out various wholesale vendors online to buy items such as candles, lanterns, bows,  and candleholders in bulk. You will be able to buy them at wholesale prices, which in turn saves you a huge chunk of change. I have seen how linens can be purchased at wholesale prices which you then can sell after your big day. I have definitely seen the savings of doing that from my friends!

2. Use natural elements. Use natural elements that you can get for free and find ways to dress them up. For example, a huge gathering of sticks can be sprayed gold or silver for a striking centerpiece. Colorful rocks can be pretty in a candle holder, and even fresh grass and wildflowers make beautiful centerpieces. Use what nature provides to make the day lovely.

3. Consider the dollar store. Your local dollar store will have a huge selection of votives, tapers, candle holders, ribbon, and more. If you need large amounts, just let a manager know ahead of time and he or she can place an order for you. You can't beat getting décor pieces for a buck! You can check out their website too and look at their selection quickly to get an idea of what is available.

4. Clip those coupons. Be sure you are clipping coupons or downloading savings apps for local craft and hobby stores. They typically carry a huge selection and if you aren’t using the available coupons, you are throwing money down the drain. Shop with a friend when possible, so you can do multiple transactions so you can use a coupon on each.

5.  Borrow what you can. Do you have friends who were recently married? See what items they may have that you can borrow. Vases, candle holders, arches, pew bows, and other items may be at your disposal. Treat them to lunch or offer to pay them a rental fee for the items. It is a great way to get what you need for less. I STILL have a large collection of mason jars, cardstock, scrapbook paper, and a few other items left over from my wedding.

6. Get crafty. Look online for ideas that you love and get crafty at creating them yourself. Anytime you can recreate a look instead of buying it premade, you are sure to save some cash. You can take a look at how I saved money on wedding flowers with a brooch bouquet in a previous post!

7. Sell what you can.
When the big day is over, see if you can sell any of your décor on Craigslist or Ebay. Chances are, many brides are just starting the journey of planning their wedding and may like your taste. I actually bought an entire lot of milk glass from Craigslist from another bride for about $40. It is a great way to get a little cash back that you can perhaps spend on your honeymoon!
