July 4th Craft: Stars & Stripes Mason Jar

Decorate your home with July 4th decor! Break out your Cricut and make this Stars & Stripes Mason Jar. It’s an easy Cricut craft for beginners, and you can make simple centerpieces for your Fourth of Jul party.

You will need a Cricut machine with fine point blade, a Cricut Standard Grip Mat, Cricut Premium Vinyl (white), Cricut Transfer Tape, Cricut Weeder Tool, Cricut Spatula or thick card, Scissors or paper cutter, pint-size mason jars (with at least one side smooth), red and blue craft paint, paintbrush, and Krylon Clear Glaze.

Grab newspaper to make clean up easy. Let’s get started! Lay out the newspaper and paint your jars, one blue and the other red. You will need to do 2-3 coats, allowing the paint to completely dry between each coat.

Once jars are fully painted, spray with clear glaze, allow to fully dry.

How to Use Your Cricut

  • Open Design Space and select โ€œNew Projectโ€, then โ€œUpload Imageโ€, โ€œBrowse Fileโ€ and find your Stars & Stripes SVG file.
  • Click  โ€œSave Fileโ€, then click on the file and โ€œInsert Imageโ€.
  • Resize to a width of 2.75โ€ and height of 2.788โ€
  • Click โ€œAttachโ€ to attach the file together for cutting.
  • Click โ€œDuplicateโ€ and arrange the second file next to the first.
  • Cut your vinyl and transfer tape to size and place vinyl onto the Cricut mat.
  • Turn the Cricut machine on, click โ€œMake Itโ€ in Design Space, and follow prompts to load the mat and start cutting.

Remove mat from machine, and remove vinyl from mat.

Cut the vinyl to separate the two designs.

Remove excess vinyl, using the weeding tool to remove the smaller pieces.

Place transfer tape over design and use the spatula to adhere the design to the transfer tape.

Place design over your mason jar, and use the spatula to adhere the design to the jar. Remove transfer tape.

Spray another coat of clear glaze.

Fill jars with fresh or fake flowers. You can also add a flag or other embellishments of your choice.

Instructions

    6. Click “Attach” to attach the file together for cutting.
    7. Click “Duplicate” and arrange the second file next to the first.
    8. Cut your vinyl and transfer tape to size and place vinyl onto the Cricut mat.
    9. Turn the Cricut machine on, click “Make It” in Design Space, and follow prompts to load the mat and start cutting.
    10. Remove the mat from the machine, and remove the vinyl from the mat.
    11. Cut the vinyl to separate the two designs.
    12. Remove excess vinyl, using the weeding tool to remove the smaller pieces.
    13. Place transfer tape over design and use the spatula to adhere the design to the transfer tape.
    14. Place design over your mason jar, and use the spatula to adhere the design to the jar. Remove transfer tape.
    15. Spray another coat of clear glaze.
