How to choose wedding outfits for kids

If you have an important wedding to attend with your little ones, you may be wondering what they should wear.

With so many options to choose from, it can feel overwhelming to find the right outfit – but the key is to choose pieces that look great and are comfortable to wear all day long.

Here, we give you some top tips to help you choose smart, practical clothing for your children – so you can all enjoy the celebrations in style!

Choose light, breathable fabrics

Firstly, choose pieces made from breathable materials like cotton, linen, or silk.

These fabrics allow air to circulate which can help regulate your kids’ body temperature – keeping them comfortable during long ceremonies and receptions.

For boys, you could choose lightweight linen trousers and a jacket with a cotton shirt. This will help them stay cool during the festivities.

Girls’ smocked dresses made of cotton or silk are ideal for little girls, as they look beautiful and are breathable.

Find comfortable and functional designs

Consider your children’s age before picking their outfits. If they’re tiny, choose items with simple fastenings (like zippers) for easy dressing rather than overly intricate details (like lots of fiddly buttons).

It’s also worth choosing trousers or dresses with stretch for extra comfort. For instance, go for trousers or skirts with an elasticized waistband.

If you’re picking out a suit, elasticized suspenders are a great option as they look super smart and let your kid move freely.

This ensures your little ones can play and have fun at the wedding without feeling constrained by their attire.

Select stylish yet practical footwear

Picking the right shoes is vital when putting together their wedding outfit. You’ll want smart-looking footwear that complements their clothing while being comfortable for all-day wear.

For girls, consider pretty ballet pumps with bows, or low-heeled Mary Jane shoes that are closed-toe with a strap across the top.

Soft leather loafers or dress shoes are ideal for boys – just make sure you opt for cushioned insoles that prevent discomfort during the day.

Whatever style you go for, make sure the shoes are well-fitted to avoid blisters so your kids can enjoy the event.

Use layers for temperature changes

If you’re unsure what the weather will be like on the day, choose outfits that can be layered. This gives your kids the option to take layers off if they get too warm, or pop items on if they feel chilly.

For instance, you could get a short-sleeved shirt for a boy, with a jumper and/or suit jacket over the top.

For a girl, consider a stylish cardigan or long-line coat that can be worn over their outfit.

Lightweight shawls or wraps are another good option as they can easily be added or removed throughout the day.

Hopefully, these tips help you find the perfect outfit for your kids, no matter the time of year or where the wedding is taking place. Wishing you a fun-filled celebration!
