Fun Activities To Consider When Spending Your Weekend At Home

A select few among us already know that a weekend spent at home can be rejuvenating, money-saving, and a ton of fun. Comfortable evenings and slow, lazy mornings are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the joy that can be squeezed out of a good weekend spent at home. The following will explore a few fun activities you might want to include. Many of these suggestions will work fine if you’ve got the house all to yourself, but a few of them will involve inviting a friend or two over.

Guilty Pleasures

When you’re home alone for the weekend, one of the most fun things you can do is indulge in your guilty pleasures. You know, the television shows you’d never admit to anyone that you’re interested in watching or those risque novels with shirtless dudes on the cover that you’d never be caught dead reading in public? A weekend at home is the perfect time and place to enjoy the things that you enjoy. Watch that movie you’ve always wanted to see (or the one that you want to rewatch for the millionth time). While you’re at it, why not order the food that none of your friends like, but you love? The entire extended editions of Lord of the Rings aren’t going to watch themselves, you know.

Dancing And Singing

Not everyone has fantastic moves, and not everyone sounds like an angel when they sing. Find the karaoke songs you love and give it your all. There’s no one to hear you or see you, so it doesn’t matter what you look or sound like; all that matters is how you feel. Singing and dancing can be a ton of fun (and, depending on how intensely you go, this might even count as exercise).

Yoga And Meditation

Another set of solo activities that are often overlooked and can leave you feeling a bit awkward if you’ve got an audience are yoga and meditation. You can put a how-to yoga video on or play a guided meditation through your speakers and enjoy the relaxation and euphoria that comes with these hobbies. You won’t need to worry that someone is judging how inflexible you are or how imperfect your meditation posture is; you can simply enjoy the benefits of these experiences. You can also go at your own pace and give up whenever you feel like you’re done.

Board Games

The board game industry is exploding right now. No matter what kind of games draw you, you’re going to be able to find one that works for you and your friend group. You might even want to host a board game potluck, which involves everyone bringing over games they think the group might like. Just be careful if you choose Risk or another lengthy strategy game that involves someone in the group losing everything they’ve built over three grueling hours. This sort of game can damage friendships if you’re not careful, and should only be played in instances where you know everyone well.

Movies That Make You Cry

Not everyone is comfortable crying in front of other people, but sometimes a cathartic, sorrowful experience is just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes, there’s great pleasure in feeling woe, and a sad film might be the perfect ingredient for a cozy weekend at home. If you’re someone who likes tragic stories, why not indulge that need when everyone is away for the weekend. You don’t have to worry about your one bubbly friend telling you that she hates this kind of film. You don’t have to worry about your other friend making awkward jokes because he doesn’t have a firm grip on his emotions. You can just enjoy the story and let the sadness come.

Cook A Meal You Love

If you’re at home and all cozy, what is better than one of your favorite dishes? Maybe you miss grilled cheese the way your mom made it when you were a kid, or perhaps you have an obsession with birthday cake, even when it’s no one’s birthday. Whatever meals you love, why not take your time and craft them exactly as you like them? Even if you don’t love cooking, you’re probably going to have fun with the finished product.

The above list should give you a few ideas of how you can enjoy a weekend at home. Take things to the next level by wearing only comfortable clothes and putting your phone on silent. Time alone or with close friends in the comfort of your own home can be incredibly healing and enjoyable. Feel free to add whatever activities you love to this list.
