Mother’s Day Gift Ideas: Citrus Sugar Scrub
It’s not too late to shop for Mother’s Day. In fact, Walmart has a one stop shop where you can pick up cards from American Greetings, candy, flowers, cute stuffed gifts, candles, and other gifts that can help you build the best gift ever for Mother’s Day. Whether it’s a girlfriend, wife, mother, grandmother, or another special lady in your life, keep reading for a few simple ideas to surprise and delight this Mother’s Day!
Homemade beauty products are one of my favorite ways to make a gift on a budget, and paired with Walmart’s one stop shop for gift giving, it’s the perfect complement this Mother’s Day. There are times when I don’t have the words to say just how much I appreciate my mother and other female family members in my life. Without them, I wouldn’t have become the person I am today. And, in fact, I am a mother myself! I now know just how hard it can be to raise a child or to juggle working and motherhood. It is important to celebrate Mother’s Day each and ever year but to also show appreciation as often as possible. With small gifts like handmade sugar scrubs and flowers, I hope to convey simple acts of kindness with these gifts this year.
Stop by Walmart to check out their display. From candy, gift cards, and flowers, you can find the display to make it easy to snag gift wrap, bags, tissue paper, and more. I grabbed a clever American Greetings card for my mom (and also cards for the grandmothers from my son!), along with a candle and a few other things. I looked for fun colors that my mother liked and also a candle in her favorite fragrance. A little chocolate goes a long way too!
If you want to create a fresh smelling sugar scrub to pair with your American Greetings gifts, follow along for the easy recipe!
Supplies Needed:
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- 5 drops of orange essential oil
- 5 drops of grapefruit essential oil
- 1 small GLASS mason jar with a lid (do not use plastic with essential oils)
The steps are easy to follow, and you might even have all the ingredients on hand!
Once you gather your ingredients, start mixing! I added 1/4 cup of coconut oil to the sugar and stirred well. I then added another 1/4 cup of coconut oil (approximately) to form a nice, consistent scrub. Add about ten drops total of the essential oils, and stir until completely blended. Pour mixture into a jar. Just make sure the jar is glass, and you might need to alter the amount of coconut oil depending on how you want to scrub to feel. Some might want it more wet while others prefer it with less oil.
