Thinking About a Cruise? Ask Yourself These Questions First
Are you debating going on a cruise? If so then you need to ask yourself these top questions first. A cruise is a great way for you to see the world and itโs also a fantastic way for you to get a lot of bang for your buck. With that in mind, they arenโt for everyone. If you want to make the most out of your cruise experience or if you want to make sure that you are making the right decision then the only thing you need to do is ask yourself the below questions.

Do You Prefer Trips that are Planned in Advance?
There are some people who love spontaneity. They like the flexibility of not having to plan things ahead of time and they love to decide what they want to do in the heat of the moment. Others like to have things planned out meticulously. If you relate to the latter, then cruising may be for you. Sure, when you go on a cruise, you will have a lot of flexibility when it comes to the activities you do. With that being said, the outline of your trip is all planned out for you. With motorcoach tours, you will also have to decide which country you want to explore. If you are booking a cruise in the Mediterranean for example then you will probably spend a few hours in Rome. If you are blown away to the point where you want to spend an extra night or two, you are out of luck. You will have to make it back to the ship later that afternoon so you can make it to the next port. You will then go on to France, or Italy. At this port, you will then have a few hours to explore that city, and so forth.
Now, there are some advantages to this kind of vacation. Your cruise line will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. The cruise line will sell you a complete package that caters to your travel needs. You will also have food and entertainment covered for you as well. You will also be given somewhere new to explore every single day, and if you want, you can even go on tours around the area. This is great, to say the least, but you do miss out on the fact that you are not really in control of what you do. Tourists looking for adventure in South America love utilizing organized cruise packages that take the stress out of planning. They can take on a 5-star luxury cruise in Ecuador Cloudforest that gives them access to lush landscapes, unique wildlife, and curated excursions without giving up comfort. These trips strike a balance between structure and discovery, offering just enough freedom to enjoy new places while staying on schedule.
Do You Like Things that Revolve Around a Single Experience?
Cruise ships will often take you to a lot of different destinations, and all on a single trip. At the core of everything though, you will be getting what youโd expect from an all-inclusive resort. Even during the port-intensive itinerary, you will probably spend a lot of the time that you spend on vacation, on your vessel. Unless you book an overnight excursion, which is rare, you will be spending most of your time on the ship. You will also probably eat most of your meals there too. On most ships, you may also find that all of your evening entertainment is provided too. Now, a lot of people lose things like this, but itโs not for everyone. Some people donโt like the idea of their entire trip being devoted to one particular theme. Of course, if this sounds great to you and you love the idea of having every single evening meal sorted, without having to worry about navigating a new area then a Disney cruise could be just what you are looking for. Are you Okay with Big Crowds?
There are a ton of smaller vessels out there that are similar to boutique hotels. There are some bigger ones though that often sail with up to 6,000 passengers. The biggest cruise ships in the world are known for being packed and if you book one of these then you will be with a lot of people. They have a lot of room for you to spread out and some of them have up to 18 passenger decks. You also have a range of family-friendly attractions and lounges. This can keep you entertained for hours on end, but if you struggle with crowds, it might not be for you. If the idea of going to a resort where you are one of thousands doesnโt sound great to you then you should probably stay away from most of the vessels that are run by major cruise lines. You would be much better off going on a land-based trip or even sailing on the lines of those who specialize in smaller trips.
Are You Comfortable with a Group Trip?
Another question that you have to ask yourself is if you are comfortable with a group trip. In some aspects, cruises are very similar to going on a group tour, but on land. You will be going with a very big group of people and you will be doing your touring at some of the ports. Just how much of a feel your cruise has will depend on how you arrange your activities. If you go on a river cruise or if you go on an expedition then your activities will be done as part of a group. Group tours in ports have to be paid for in advance. If you go on an ocean-going ship on the other hand then you will probably have more space to yourself on your own rather than going as a group. When you go on an ocean-sailing vessel, you can arrange to have a guide in port, for you and your family alone. Sometimes the ship will arrange this for you, but other times you will have to find a vendor. Of course, you can just go ahead and venture out into the port if you want, and do your exploring. This is great, but at the end of the day, you do need to try and account for whether or not group travel is your thing. If itโs not, then reconsider your idea of a cruise.
Is Eating Local Important to You?
You also need to consider whether or not eating locally is important to you. For some, eating locally is such an important part of travel. You may want to eat pesto over trofie in Genoa or pad thai in Bangkok. Either way, if you feel the need to savor local flavors then you may want to try and focus on avoiding a cruise ship. Cruise ships normally offer cuisine that keeps in line with whatever you would find at home. If you go on an American cruise line then you may find a lot of steakhouses and some Italian restaurants. You may have some bigger ships which cater for a range of food but either way, you should keep in mind the fact that a lot of the time, you wonโt be able to sample rich international cuisine. Eateries and dishes donโt often have a lot to do with the locations you visit, but they will give you what you know and love. If you are a bit of an adventurous eater then you may not like this very much, but if you favor the simple life then you will love what a cruise ship has to offer.
Do You Want to Be Pampered?
Another big question to ask yourself is if you want to be pampered or not. A cruise may be a good choice if you do. People who go on a cruise often find that they get hooked, because itโs a great way for you to have a luxurious vacation without breaking the bank. Even if you go on a low-cost cruise you will have a room attendant and it is their job to know you by name and to offer any help with anything you might need while onboard. They will clean your room either once or twice a day and they will also wait for you at restaurants. They go beyond to meet your every need and sometimes they will know your favorite drink and have it ready before you even ask them. This is an experience that you canโt get unless you go to a high-end hotel. Of course, one benefit of this is that you can rest assured knowing that you will be treated like royalty and that you will be pampered beyond your wildest dreams. One thing to take note of here is that if youโre not a fan of being tended to, or if you much prefer to be left to your own devices then a cruise might not be for you. You at least, may want to look into cruises that are more catered to your requirements, such as finding one that is more suited to you as an introvert. If you can do this then thereโs no reason why you canโt have the best time so keep that in mind if you are debating making the jump to sea travel in 2024.
