Rainy Day Activities for Everyone

Many places around the world have their own rainy season. It might surprise some people to know that even Florida has one between April and October, when sea-breezes from opposite coasts meet in the center of “the Sunshine State”, often leading to heavy thunderstorms.

Some people love an excuse to stay in when it's raining, others not so much. This is where these rainy-day tips can help, offering activity suggestions for households of all types, whether you’re entertaining the kids, whiling away the afternoon with a friend or partner, or spending time on your own.

Something for Everybody

Playing together is a great way to bond and have fun, especially if you’re solving a challenge together. 3D wooden puzzles offer a great mental workout, plus they’re very satisfying to complete, and some even come with working mechanical parts, or you could try out a traditional 1,000 piece jigsaw.

Cooking or baking is another great group activity; for kids, homemade pizzas or ice cream sundaes are popular choices. For something a little more grown-up, you could try making your own cocktails, mocktails or fancy coffee drinks, and living room picnics are always a fun idea, especially if you build a fort to sit in.

Creative play is important for children, helping to build skills like hand-eye coordination and communication while improving confidence. If you’re living as a couple or as roommates, it’s likely you already spend a lot of time indoors together, so why not opt for a change of scene and head out instead?  From roller discos and live events to coffee shops and games arcades, there’s plenty of ways to get out of the house without getting rained on.

If you’re staying home, you can test out your teamwork skills by tackling that DIY project you’ve been wanting to do, or if you’re planning a night in, make it extra fun with an at-home movie night (complete with popcorn), a video-games marathon, or even throw a mini karaoke party. 

Rainy Day for One

Rainy days are perfect for indulging in a little R&R, so get out your fanciest bath products, put on some soothing background music and have your own little at-home spa day. Afterwards, open the windows, let the weather be your soundtrack to a suitably rainy day book, like the Twilight Saga or Wuthering Heights.

You could also get crafty and try making your own gifts; Pinterest offers a  trove of creative activities to try out such as upcycling, knitting or macrame, or why not make a handmade card or two to post to loved ones? These are sure to brighten up anyone’s day, rainy or not.
