Contact Lenses Versus Glasses

For anyone that does not have perfect vision, other than laser eye surgery, the two options out there are either contact lenses or glasses. Just like anything though, there are good points and bad points about each of these options. The choice between contact lenses or glasses usually comes down to personal choice and the lifestyle of the individual in question.ย

Contact Lenses

These are small, thin discs of either glass or plastic that are placed directly onto the eyeball in order to correct vision. They come in two different types, either hard (rigid glass permeable) or soft. It is the soft type of contact lenses that are the most popular, as they are more comfortable to wear.

As far as soft contact lenses are concerned, there are a number of different types. These include the following:

  • Extended Wear – as the name suggests, these contact lenses can be worn for a long time and even over night. You just need to clean them once each week. To get your hands on some of these, visit https://www.contactlenses.co.uk/contact-lenses/monthly-disposable
  • Daily Disposables – you use these just once and then you throw them out once done with them.
  • Daily Wear – these are worn throughout the day and are then cleaned at night. They are replaced on a schedule that is determined by your optometrist.

The good thing about wearing contact lenses is that they provide you with a much more natural vision than what wearing glasses does. There is no frame to block your vision and they even move around as your eye does. They are not impacted on by weather conditions, unlike glasses that can steam up or get wet.

Glasses

When it comes to glasses, there are two different types; multifocal and single vision. The latter of these correct eye issues that relate to distance, and the former help with both issues relating to distance and near vision.

Multifocal glasses come in three different forms. These include the following:

  • Progressives – these offer the same properties of both trifocal and bifocal glasses but without the line dividing the different parts of the lense. The transition between the different bits is completely smooth.
  • Trifocals – there are three areas on the lenses of these types of glasses. The top bit is for distance, the middle bit is for vision, and the bottom bit is for reading,
  • Bifocals – these include corrective properties on the top bit of the lense for issues with distance and on the bottom but for the purpose of reading.

Wearing glasses is a much easier option and way less intrusive than wearing contact lenses. All you have to do is put them on your face and you are ready to go. There is no need for any specialist cleaning liquid, like there is with contact lenses, because they do not require the same level of care and attention. There are frames that suit all shapes of face and all individual styles. If your eyes do not get any worse, then there is no need to change your glasses often.
