Health Tips: How To Improve Your Diet To Get More Vitamins And Nutrients

Diet is one of the most important parts of our lives. There are many reasons why this is true but they mostly have to do with the fact that all that goes into our diet impacts our whole organism. This is why every diet should have proper nutrients and vitamins, and with these health tips, yours will too.

Eat whole grains

There are three big types of food, often referred to as macros that impact the diet on a larger scale. These three groups of food are carbs, proteins, and fats. Let’s focus on carbs here for a moment. A great, and healthy source of carbs is whole grain. Not only that, whole grain foods are rich in complex carbohydrates and fiber. In other words – they are a much healthier option as opposed to simple sugars which can increase the risk of type II diabetes. As a point of reference, you should look for products that have at least 3 grams of fiber per single serving. Some of the foods that you should substitute are rolled or steel-cut oats. All things whole-wheat such as whole-wheat pasta, tortillas, crackers, rolls, and bread. Furthermore, substitute the regular rice for brown rice, and make sure you incorporate quinoa, barley, or buckwheat in your diet. Quinoa is especially convenient because it’s very easy to prepare.

Make it easier on yourself

Among all the calorie counting, and throughout research into what kind of nutrients can be found and where it’s quite easy to get lost and discouraged. Even though there are many resources online on where to get the nutrients and vitamins you need, this still requires extensive and specific shopping lists, going to different kinds of stores, and preparing the food in a certain manner. This can become exhausting all too quickly which is why most people turn to supplement powders or pills to complete their diet. Supplements are also a very good option if you’re pressed for time, and don’t have time to think too much about what needs to go into your diet to make it more healthy. However, there are many supplements out there which is why reading honest supplement reviews is advisable since some of the supplements on the market don’t have the proper nutrients and vitamins. Ultimately, once a suitable supplement is found, be sure to follow the instructions on how to use it.

Healthy fats

Another big part of a well-nurtured diet is healthy fats. More often than not, people realize just how greasy their food is, which is especially true if you enjoy getting takeout. Even though these saturated fats are harmful, and many people are aware of that, most people choose to keep having them in their diet because of the notion that they make everything taste better. This is one of the worst things someone can do to their diet since these fats can lead to buildup in the blood vessels, which ultimately leads to plaque formation and eventually a heart attack. Unsaturated fats should be the only fats in your diet, especially if they are poly-unsaturated. They will keep the “bad” cholesterol at bay too, keeping you fit and healthier throughout your lifetime. Some of the foods with healthy fats are olive oil, of course, peanut and sesame oil, avocados, and nuts. Furthermore, some seeds are rich in these fats such as sunflower seeds and flaxseed. Last but not least, fatty fish are an incredible source of many healthy fats.

Don’t forget the proteins

Last but not least, the third big group is the proteins. Proteins are an essential part of the diet since our muscles are also built from proteins, and whenever they break down, dietary proteins are broken down and used to repair them. The proteins in our muscles break down during any kind of exercise, depending on the intensity. This is the prerequisite to muscle building. While there are many obvious protein sources such as meats, this is not always the best option, especially if you are a vegan or vegetarian (or simply don’t like meat). Whichever the case, avoiding commercial meat is highly recommended. People either opt to stop eating it at all or to buy locally grown, organic meat products. This has proven to be a more nutritious, and less harmful option for many people out there, especially athletes. It also contains much more vitamins such as vitamin B than commercially produced meat.

With these health tips, it’s much easier to find suitable vitamins and nutrients to enrich your diet. They can be found in all the aforementioned macros, but can also be ingested in the form of a supplement, which is ultimately a more convenient method for many.
