What to Know Before You Invest in a Peloton Bike

If youโ€™re a busy parent, you might be interested in working out from home. Undoubtedly, Peloton is one of the top pieces of equipment for doing just that.

The Peloton Tread+ was recently recalled because of safety concerns with the belt, so you may want to avoid that equipment for now.

Instead, you might be thinking about getting what started it allโ€”the Peloton bike.

If you donโ€™t have one yet and youโ€™d like to add this piece of high-end equipment to your home gym, the following are some important things to know.

The Basics

If youโ€™re fairly new to the brand and all you know about Peloton is what youโ€™ve seen on the commercials, first, itโ€™s a home exercise bike. You work out at home, but youโ€™re taking classes either live or on-demand with engaging instructors. The experience is immersive, and it feels like you really are at your local spin studio.

The bike features a touchscreen, and you can track your performance. Plus, thereโ€™s a real-time leaderboard if you like a little competition.

While the Peloton hit the market in 2014, the company truly exploded in 2020 because the pandemic was forcing people to do pretty much everything from home.

Peloton recently launched the Bike Plus in the fall of 2020, and itโ€™s an upgraded version of the original.

What Is the Peloton Bike Plus?

If youโ€™re debating between the base model and the Peloton Bike Plus, you may be wondering what the differences are.

The Peloton Bike Plus has a bigger upgraded touchscreen that rotates. Thatโ€™s one of the most important differences because the company launched boot camp classes. Bootcamps combine cycling with strength and floor work, so you hop on and off the bike, making the rotating screen important.

Thereโ€™s also the Auto Follow option. This is a resistance feature that lets the instructor automatically adjust the resistance on your bike to what theyโ€™re using.

The Bike Plus is compatible with the Apple Watch and the Apple GymKit as well.

The Peloton Bike is the original, and it will save you around $600 compared to the Plus.

The Peloton Bike still offers access to the leaderboard, but it wonโ€™t pair with the Apple Gym Kit.

If you already have the Peloton Bike, you can trade it in and get a $700 rebate when you buy the Peloton Bike Plus.

The bikes are around the same size and take up the same amount of space with a 4×2 footprint. You should have at least eight-foot ceilings where you place your bike, according to Peloton recommendations.

You need around two feet of space around all four sides of your bike too.

The Peloton Bike Plus screen is 23.8 inches, and the original has a screen of 21.5 inches.

Types of Classes

While there are certainly other exercise bikes on the market, what does set Peloton apart as a brand is its instructors. The classes make you feel like youโ€™re working out in the studio, and a lot of people follow an instructor or maybe a few instructors that they feel resonate with them.

Peloton doesnโ€™t just have spinning classes.

As was touched on, they also offer boot camps where you can combine weight training with biking.

A Peloton Digital membership will also get you access to yoga, running, walking, meditation, and strength training without cardio.

On the bike, there are varying lengths of classes, from five-minute warmup and cooldown options up to 60-minute endurance rides.

HIIT rides combine interval training with recovery periods, while HIIT and Hills is a popular option that also throws resistance work into the mix, simulating a ride up a steep hill.

What Are the Delivery Times Right Now?

Because of soaring demand in 2020, Peloton faced issues with delivery times. This was also coupled with supply chain issues because of the pandemic. Now, the company has seemingly worked out some of those issues.

Currently, Peloton has been letting customers know that they might be able to expect their Bike to be delivered in as few as one to three weeks.

For the Bike+, you might expect it in seven to nine weeks.

Overall, while the Peloton brand took a hit with the treadmill issues, it does still offer a great product that makes it easy to work out at home if youโ€™re willing to pay the hefty price for one of these luxury stationary bikes.

You donโ€™t have to worry about finding childcare and driving to the gym, so maybe, in the end, the financial part of it works out for you.
