#AmazonPrime Party With Tumble Leaf and Creative Galaxy

If you’re hosting a preschool party soon, consider pairing creativity with cartoons with Amazon Prime’s Instant Video. I have been a Prime member for several years now, and it was my toddler who encouraged me to renew my membership this past December. You see, he already has a favorite television show. It involves a curious fox who looks for clues to solve problems and discovers new things. Tumble Leaf, or “puppy” as my toddler calls him, is my son’s absolute favorite cartoon available only through Amazon Prime. What I love about the show as a parent is that they DO things. They play with kites, wear silly masks, and enjoy mud pies. To show our enthusiasm for the show (and the entire Amazon Prime children’s line up), I hosted a party perfect for preschoolers. If you have a birthday party or a moms group event to host, try these ideas!

  • Tumble Leaf, winner of the 2014 Annecy International Animated Film Festival Jury Award for a TV Series, is created by Emmy award-winning director Drew Hodges and Bix Pix Entertainment. The series follows Fig, a delightfully curious blue fox, and his best friend Stick, a quirky caterpillar, as they embark on a fun and nature-filled adventure, learning science through their natural play.
  • Creative Galaxy, produced by Out of the Blue Enterprises with Angela Santomero (Blue’s Clues, Super Why!) serving as Creator and Executive Producer, is a make-along, create-along, interactive art adventure series for preschoolers.
  • Annedroids, Created by Emmy-nominated J.J. Johnson (Dino Dan) and Sinking Ship Entertainment, and aimed at children aged four through seven, Annedroids is a live-action adventure series about “Anne,” a young female scientist, her human friends and their android assistants, and the amazing scientific discoveries they make while undertaking the biggest experiment of them all: growing up. The series spotlights, through trial and error, how science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) can inspire children to do great things.

The Party Set Up

Since my son loves Tumble Leaf SO much, I started with a few of the core elements from the show. Mud pies, Mardi Gras style masks, and kites. Oh, and the finding place!

The main character of Tumble Leaf is Fig the Fox, and he is a bright blue color. Naturally everything needed to be blue. From the fruit punch to the straws to the table decor, vibrant blue was in.

I also set out gingerbread cookies (“mud pies”) for the children to snack on. We also had a DIY popcorn station. I popped a lot of popcorn ahead of time, and guests served themselves to create their own combinations of TV-worthy snacks.

I set out snacks and cookies on a long table so that guests could serve themselves while watching these shows.

What was important to me as both a mother and someone who enjoys being outside, was to have the party both inside AND outside. With our wireless Internet connection, iPads, and laptops, we are able to watch movies from our outdoor deck. It is enjoyable, and we get to follow Fig the Fox’s lead in creativity. While he flew a kite, our guests assembled their own.

We used parts from dollar store kites, and we added embellishments to each one. Inspired by “The Finding Place” in Tumble Leaf, we used what we had around and thought about how to make it work.

These children’s shows on Amazon Prime are more than television shows. They are interactive and engaging. I don’t mind when my son is watching Tumble Leaf or Creative Galaxy, because he is learning new things.

Our guests enjoyed streaming the shows too. From a cozy spot inside that we set up to inspire creative play to our outdoor deck, we enjoyed hanging out and getting to know these shows a bit better.

I set out Mardi Gras style masks for everyone to wear, and once they watched a few episodes they made the connection that the characters wear the masks in the show!

We also made a “finding place” out of a treasure box we already had. What will you find inside?

After a few episodes of Tumble Leaf, we switched over to Creative Galaxy. Hosting a party with busy preschoolers can be fun when you think of a theme and find activities that match. By streaming Amazon Prime shows and using creative craft ideas based on the shows, it became so much more than a typical Saturday afternoon.
