Tips For Prom Essentials

Oh, it is that time of the year, prom season! It’s pretty safe to say that Prom is the second most significant day in every girl’s life, your wedding day being at the top, of course, but that is a different story for another day.

Let’s talk about Prom! Prom night is without a doubt one of the most dazzling events of the year, and it is a golden opportunity to celebrate all of your efforts and hard work that you have put in during the exam season; now it’s party time!

This one night is your chance to make precious memories, take loads of pictures that will be cherished forever! You can finally dress up, glam up and hit the dance floor with your friends as you celebrate your school life in all its glory.

Planning for Prom, however, could sometimes be very overwhelming, not to mention stressful. Therefore, planning and making your beauty appointments at least four months before Prom night is highly recommended. Also, you never know if other schools are hosting their prom night on the same night. So, rather be safe than sorry.

To help ease the anxiety, here Are A Few Tips When It Comes To The Essentials:

  1. Set Up a Budget

Prom night can turn out to be a very costly experience if not adequately planned for. Therefore, ensure to set up a budget in advance so that you and your parents know what you’re in for.

Remember to take the following essentials into account

  • Your Dress
  • Accessories and Shoes
  • Hair, makeup and nails
  1. Find Your Dress

Your prom dress is by far the most crucial part of this whole process and should be at the top of your priority.

Now, this is the beauty of planning. You can chop and change where you see fit. So if you want to splurge on prom dresses, you splurge and cut somewhere else, such as makeup or buying expensive shoes.

A side tip:

When choosing your prom dress, there are ways to chop costs on other things but still guarantee that you’ll look stunning on the big night.

For example:

  • A shimmering or sparkling dress will eliminate jewellery costs as you won’t really need any jewellery because your dress already gives that shine factor.
  • A slit-less, full-length gown will hide your shoes, so you don’t have to buy a new expensive pair of shoes, you can wear shoes that you already own as no one will be able to see them.
  1. Accessories

When it comes to accessories, remember less can always be more. So pay close attention to your dress’s details and the shoes you’re planning on wearing. Too many accessories might make you look like a walking disco ball, which we don’t want.

  1. Shoes

Assuming you decided to buy new shoes, make sure to buy shoes that complement your dress. For example, you can buy shoes that colour match your dress or go for a silver number with sparkles.

A side tip:

It does not matter what type or colour shoes you decide to get; just make sure that you break your shoes in before Prom night. Wear them around the house, outside or go to the mall with a backup pair of shoes for when your heels start to be, well, new heels. Breaking in your shoes before the event will help make them more comfortable and minimize the chances of slipping during the night.

The last thing you want is to have blisters on your toes and heels on the night of Prom because your brand new heels have not been worn at all.

Also, consider taking a backup pair of shoes to Prom. You never know when and if they’ll come in handy.

  1. Hair and Makeup

Should you decide to have your hair and makeup done by professionals, as mentioned earlier, make sure to make your appointments at least 2-3 in advance to be sure that you secure a spot.

Before the appointments, do yourself a favour and search online via Instagram or Pinterest for some great ideas on how you would like your hair and makeup to look. This will also give the hairdresser and makeup artist a guideline of what you want and your style.

A side tip:

If you want to do your own hair and makeup or ask a friend, go and look at some of the fantastic online tutorials on Youtube or Pinterest on what gear you are going to need and how it should be done. Be sure to do a few trial runs before Prom night.

And there you have it! Remember to get plenty of rest before the big night; try not to stress too much as all will be fine. You are going to look gorgeous! Be safe, and most importantly, have fun!
