The Streamlined Approach: 10 Ways To Make Life Easier

We can find ourselves overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks in our lives. Because life is so busy, we end up doing so much but are not able to keep track of it at all. Learning to streamline your life is about a handful of key practices. Letโ€™s show you some that you could implement in your life right away.

Reduce the Number of Steps in a Task

When you start a look at your everyday life, and you break it down into significant tasks or duties, how many steps are in each task? When you identify the process of doing something, is there a way for you to make it easier? Because when we start to make a task so complex, it reduces the time for everything else. The best way is to start by making those little things in life easier to do. This means you could use your microwave for certain meals rather than putting it in the oven. Or it could be about installing automatic soap dispensers rather than actually going through the process of manually squeezing the soap. And while a lot of tasks in life may seem trivial, we have to remember that all of these little tasks will add up during the course of a day. If we want to reclaim our lives we've got to start looking at the tasks we do but then greatly reduce the number of steps.

Use the 80/20 Rule

The Pareto Principle, commonly known as the 80/20 rule, states that 80% of the consequences come from 20% of the causes. And this is something that many people do in business, but when you start to realize that 80% of the things that you do comes from 20% of the effort, you can start to incorporate this in many areas of your life. By applying the 80/20 rule to your life, you should see a massive difference. You have to start by analyzing your priorities so you can put your focus in the right place, which starts by identifying all of your daily tasks, pinpointing the key ones, and seeing how you can reduce the tasks that give you minimal return.

Go to Sleep!

If you feel exhausted all the time, sleep is obviously something you need, but is sleep actually something you continue to practice? Because if life is getting you down, is it because you're not sleeping well? Because you might think that you are struggling in life is the reason you are tired, but it might be the other way around. But while eight hours of sleep a night is not possible for most people, you can aim to get eight hours of sleep one night a week. And that night, you have to do whatever you can to get to bed early. It's easier said than done as a parent. However, if you can get into the habit of getting eight hours of sleep in total during one 24-hour period, including naps, you will feel the difference.

Reduce Decision Fatigue

Are you tired because you have made too many decisions? Decision fatigue is a very common phenomenon now. But there are little things you can do to greatly reduce decision fatigue. If you are someone who picks your clothes in the morning, why don't you do this the night before? Reducing decision fatigue is something that many politicians practice. They realize that because there are many big decisions they have to make, the little ones can easily sap them of their mental energy.

Create Routines

We demand structure. As human beings, we need it. If you are trying to make life easier, you've got to create routines and follow them. The best place to begin is to create a morning routine and a nighttime routine. If you feel stressed, a nighttime routine is a perfect opportunity for you to unwind. Doing something that is for you, and allows you to get into that sleep mode, will result in more quality rest. Creating routines can make life easier because you know what you have to do and is something that is crucial when you have children. They need a nighttime routine in order to wind down. But grown-ups need to as well!

Simplify Your Money

Money is an absolute nightmare for most people. If you constantly think about how much money you have, now is the time to simplify your finances. Many people have financial concerns because they don't earn enough. But the key is in changing your lifestyle, rather than thinking you need to get more money. By simplifying your money, and greatly reducing your expenses down to the essentials, you can see a big difference. Something that people like to do in order to make the most of the finances is to incorporate the 50/30/20 method. This is where you put 50% of your pay (after-tax) on the things you need, 30% on the things that you want, and 20% on paying off debt or into savings.

Make Mealtimes Less Stressful

If you want to create nutritional meals for the kids, you might spend a lot of time slaving in the kitchen, and before you know it, you have spent two hours in the kitchen. During the week, you've got to simplify mealtimes and find a system that works for you. Many people like the idea of batch cooking. When you spend one day a month batch cooking meals that last a few weeks, portion them up, and put them in the freezer, you've already reduced the mental energy that goes into deciding what the kids should have for their dinner.

Ask Yourself Why You Are Doing Something

Something very simple, but sometimes we find ourselves constantly on the go and have got into a routine where we don't know why we're doing something. If you ask yourself why you're doing something, and if it is actually benefiting your life or not, the very simple solution is to just get rid of it! If it's not benefiting your life, why are you doing it?

Donโ€™t Always Look for a New Way to Do Something

It's about making life simple. If you keep trying to find a new way to do things, you may have made the process even more complex. There isn't always a new way to do things, but it's about making sure that you can repeat certain things. This goes back to the idea of decision fatigue; if you can repeat your clothing choices a few times a week, it's going to reduce any mental exertion. You could incorporate this into your life with your clothing, but you can also have regular themed nights for dinner, and so on.

Address What Is Actually Causing You Stress

Perhaps you need to upgrade your home or make some changes in your life, but if you actually pinpoint the real reason that you are stressed, working to eradicate this is going to streamline your life and make you happier. This is the best tool of all to make life easier.
