Today is kind of a big day. My husband is on Shark Week. Cue the applause. Okay, I’ve known about it since he went to film it on the other coast of Florida, but I didn’t say much (if anything) about it. Now that tonight’s the night, it’s time to spill. My husband is a sports reporter for a Florida paper who also writes about outdoors. He has done a few feature stories on the legend of Old Hitler, a gigantic hammerhead shark that was rumored to live off our coast. I can’t tell the story nearly as well as he can, so you can read up on Old Hitler and Shark Week on the Naples Daily News’ website. Keep reading for the links!
Catch My Husband on Shark Week:
- Monster Hammerhead
To celebrate today, I created a fun and fruity cocktail for Shark Week. I asked my husband to name it, and this is how the Mad Mako was born. I paired a few things from our liquor cabinet and shook away. I have had this bottle of bright blue Kinky Liqueur for ages, and I didn’t know what to do with it. I think it fits in quite nicely with this shark-inspired drink.
Kinky Blue a tropical and wild berry vodka that probably would taste good mixed with anything. Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it. I was surprised at how flavorful it was! I had a few different fruit sodas, including the pear nectar up above, but I ended up going with the pineapple nectar. I loved the combination!
- 1 shot of Kinky Blue Liqueur
- 1 shot of Coconut Rum
- Pineapple Nectar or Pineapple Soda
- Add ice, rum, pineapple nectar, and Kinky to a cocktail shaker.
- Shake, pour, enjoy!
- Garnish with blue fishies if you can find them. 😉
