National Coffee Day is September 29th, just in time for Pumpkin Spice season! More than three-quarters of Americans drink coffee, and of them, more than 40 percent make it at home. When, according to Zagat’s, people are paying $3.28 per cup, it’s worth it to figure out how to make our favorite drinks ourselves!
With the IMUSA Bistro 4-cup Espresso Maker, making my very own pumpkin spice latte was super easy and tasted better than anything I have had elsewhere! Here’s what I used:
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup of your favorite brewed espresso
- First, I whisked one ½ cup of milk with the sugar, pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, and the vanilla in a saucepan on low for five minutes.
- Add the other ½ cup of milk and whisked for two more minutes.
- Once this mixture was ready, I brewed my espresso in my IMUSA Espresso Maker.
- Then, I poured the pumpkin mixture into a separate cup and used the frother to make that signature foam.
- I slowly poured this into the espresso and there it was: a perfect, coffee-shop-style concoction!
- (Of course, adding a little whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice on top never hurt anyone…)

The IMUSA was very easy to use and clean. Because this is a non-pump espresso machine, you’ll need to wait until the machine cools before making a second cup (if using the frother). My only real criticism is that the reservoir holds more water than the espresso pot (in order to create steam to power the frother). This means that you can’t walk away from the machine while it’s brewing or the pot will overflow. In my book, these are such small drawbacks that it’s still worth it to go the homemade route.
