It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…and we are SO ready to start our family traditions this year. While we typically bake cookies, see Santa, and visit a local theme park, we have a new friend in our home who is helping us enjoy Christmas in an entirely new way!
We have invited Alexa into our home with various Amazon products already, but our new Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition has made my son SO exciting to have his own little piece of Amazon. We are enjoying learning the new Alexa skills, playing age-appropriate music, listening to Audible audiobooks, and he LOVES setting timers to remind him about cooking or for homework time.
I wanted to share a few ideas with you to create special memories this holiday season with Alexa!
Amazon Alexa Holiday Ideas
Add events to your calendar. All you have to do is simply tell Alexa to add a special Christmas party to your calendar on a certain date and time. While this is helpful for grownups, my son is obsessed with asking Alexa what day is it and when our next event is. He has a better grasp of time and where we are going and when!
Kids can create announcements to make it known when events are happening, for example, announce when it’s time to play a family game or when your favorite movie is on!
We most excited to CALL SANTA with Alexa! Simply say “Alexa, Call Santa…” to start the fun!
You can also use this to call family members, like grandma and grandpa, with a simple “Call Grandma” message.
You can also read Disney Stories or ask other holiday questions. My son likes to get Alexa to tell jokes, and sometimes the results are downright hilarious.
You can use Alexa Skill Blueprints to write a letter to Santa (Santa’s Letter) and check back daily to find out how far away it is from the North Pole.
Holiday Ideas to ask Alexa
- Alexa, help me send a letter to Santa.
- Alexa, where is my Santa letter?
- Alexa, help me send a holiday card.
- Alexa, help me send a Christmas card.
I love knowing that my son is learning every day with Alexa on his side. From reading, asking questions to satisfy his growing curiosity, and to keep him on track with timers and reminders like alarms for waking up for school. Plus, we use Amazon FreeTime too! I never worry with the Parent Dashboard so I know my son is being safe with all the new technology he is using.
Most content mentioned is available on Echo Dot Kids Edition and FreeTime on Alexa, however, Blueprints are not.
Life is easier, and when days get busy, like for the holidays… we truly need a sidekick who can help us out.
Don’t let the holidays stress you out! Enjoy those everyday traditions that make each day more special this time of year.
