Fourth of July Cake in a Jar Dessert Recipe
Break out the red, white, and blue! It’s time to celebrate with this Fourth of July cake in a jar dessert recipe!
Sometimes the sweetest things are the simplest. Upgrade your patriotic cupcake display for an easy cake in a jar! They’re fun to share and even better to gift. I’ve both given and received cakes in jars, and they are the cutest way to say hello and wish someone well for the holiday.
To get started, you will need to prepare five red cupcakes and five blue cupcakes. If you’re pressed for time but still want to create a unique dessert, consider buying pre-made cupcakes. No one will fault you for that! 😉
If you are going to bake your own cupcakes, use a white cake mix and prepare according to package instructions. Divide the batter equally and use food coloring to make half of them blue and half of them red. Once cooled, you can begin to crumble the cupcakes into a mixing bowl. Keep separated by color!
Put some of the white frosting into a small piping bag or a small plastic baggie with the corner cut off. Take a jar and put a layer of blue cake crumbles in the bottom. My layer was about an inch thick. Take the frosting and pipe a thick line around the edges of the blue cake crumbles. Make sure you are pressing the frosting against the glass edge as you are going around.
Add another layer of blue crumbles, then a frosting line, and another layer of red crumbles. Now pipe a full layer of frosting over the top of the cake so it’s completely covered. You should be right about at the top rim of the jar. Sprinkle the patriotic sprinkles over the top.
