There’s nothing better than fresh fruit and vegetables during the summer! Summer parties are kind of my favorite, and I’ve written at length about our party planning tips throughout this blog. From easy cocktails and simple grilling recipes, I look forward to sharing how we celebrate our everyday life with good food and great conversation among friends. Working with Fresh From Florida this year has been an amazing experience as I learned more about the seasonal produce available to us here in my area. We are so lucky to have fresh produce available at amazing prices year-round thanks to our Florida farmers. Since summer is now here, we look for watermelon and sweet corn this time of year! P.S. did you know that Fresh From Florida tomatoes, blueberries, bell peppers, mangoes, and star fruit are also in season in Florida?! Get ready to learn how to cook corn on the grill and how to style the best summer soiree yet!
Our party shopping list included Fresh From Florida sweet corn and watermelon along with other grilling favorites like shrimp. Sweet corn and watermelon is SO mouth-watering when it’s fresh since it is so flavorful. We love to make frozen watermelon pops and street corn recipes too. I love that it is usually on sale this time of year, so I can stock up without worrying about my budget. Since party planning during the summer has us on overload, I look for affordable ingredients that can feed a crowd in a hurry. Watermelon is the BEST for summertime fun. Simply grab a watermelon, inflate that kiddie pool, and grab your shades to relax in the sun!
One of the first parties we threw this summer was to celebrate the beginning of summer. School ended a few weeks ago, and we are so grateful for the easier schedule. We invited friends, family, and neighbors for a backyard party with games, food, and fun. To incorporate the Fresh From Florida theme, I opted for colorful watermelon and fruity decor along with striped straws, simple recipes, and ice cold drinks!
Mango lemonade is actually one of our favorite drinks to serve since it is also a Fresh From Florida fruit! We used to live in a house with three large mango trees, and we had so many we didn’t know what to do with them! 😉 Lemonade is an awesome way to incorporate fruit into your everyday routine, and it certainly pleased our party guests!
Grilling Party Planning Checklist
To prepare for your party, get started at the grill. Make sure you have an easy-to-use grill and plenty of charcoal or propane depending on the type of grill you have. Lighter fluid is a nice thing to have along with tongs, a spatula, and a basting brush. We like to use a basting brush for seasoning the food while we cook. A grill brush helps keep your grill nice and clean, and a grill light is a needed accessory to help you cook in the dark! Foil is also a must-have since it helps you cook food to their optimal temperature while you grill.
How to Cook Corn on the Grill
The highlight of our party was, of course, the food! We fired up the grill and made both marinaded shrimp and grilled corn on the cob. If you want to learn how to cook corn on the grill, simply buy Fresh From Florida sweet corn. Peel back corn husks and remove silk. Use a tablespoon of butter, salt, and pepper on each piece of corn. You can choose to wrap each ear of corn in foil or cook it directly on the grill. We usually continue adding our marinade to the corn as we grill (usually butter, garlic, and spices). Cook for thirty minutes or until done. Use Fresh From Florida’s grilled corn recipe for the full instructions.
Shrimp Grilling Tips
We also like to grill shrimp often, and it makes a simple pairing with corn and watermelon. I have several grilled shrimp recipes in my recipe index, and any of them will delight you!
