You look into the closet into a sea of heels, flats, and pumps. You find plenty of choices for work or a dressy night out. When it’s time to relax, go for a walk or hang with the girls, and make sure to choose footwear that matches the occasion. Here are a few casual styles to accessorize your relaxed wardrobe and stay comfortable all day.
Known for their canvas body and braided rope soles and heels, espadrilles come in a variety of styles including flats and platform wedges. Espadrilles can complement not only stylish jeans or a beautiful dress but also business casual work attire, like capris and mini-skirts. You can wear this versatile footwear almost anywhere whether it’s to work or happy hour.
If you’re headed outside for a walk or a hike, wear footwear made with strong material and rugged soles. You don’t have to wear heavy, lace-up work boots that are hard to get on and off. While they may be rugged, they can cause blisters and keep your feet too warm. Try a pair of comfortable slip-on shoes for a change. Pick a lighter shoe in a neutral color that matches your favorite shorts and jeans. Make sure to choose a shoe with durable treads to help keep you safe while you’re hiking over uneven ground. At the end of the day, slip-ons are a perfect match for your favorite jeans or khakis when you want to grab a drink or a bite at the local pub.
Always keep a pair or two of traditional standbys like comfy leather or canvas sneakers. Keds have been around since about 1892 with good reason. You can’t beat the feel of sneakers that fit your feet just right. Lace up and go for a long stroll or a few laps around the mall during a shopping spree. To ensure a perfect fit, make sure you have a little room between your big toe and the front of the sneaker and that there is no slipping in the heel to avoid blisters.
Sandals come in many styles and heel heights. These shoes can compliment almost any piece you’ll find in your wardrobe. Open, minimalist styles like sandals are perfect for warm summer days and nights. Pack waterproof sandals for a day at the beach or wear dressy leather platforms for lunch or dinner with friends.
It’s not a shoe and not quite a bootie. A shootie is a little shorter than a boot but taller than a flat or a sneaker. Shooties are hybrid footwear that is usually ankle-high with a bit of a heel. Leather and suede designs make shooties ideal for casual dresses, skirts, and jeans. If you are standing or walking around all day, try a low-heeled shootie to be more comfortable.
Give yourself options when you can relax and spend the day or the weekend in your casual clothes. Fill your shoe rack with versatile casual shoes to match every outfit and activity.
