For the last year, I’ve been teaching the Introduction to Communication class at our local college. Every semester, for one of their first assignments, I ask my students to identify something that defines the way they communicate. While many of them point to things like their phones or computers, more and more of them use their video game console as an example of something that they use to communicate on a daily basis.
I thought about it for a second and after I lamented just how old I’ve become, I realized just how true it is for the younger generation. Video games offer a level of interaction and human communication that was practically unheard of even just a decade ago. When I was growing up, the concept of communication during a video game consisted of talking smack during a heated round of NBA Jam to the friend next to you on the couch. Now anyone can have full conversations with friends no matter whose couch they happen to be sitting on, anywhere in the world.
And while, as a parent, I might worry about things like them talking to strangers or what they might hear in online multiplayer games, I realized that that isn’t the point of why most of them like to use their gaming console as a communication device. Video games are a form of escapism, they have been since the Super Mario Bros. days. For decades, this could also have an isolating effect on those who spent too much time playing them. Along with communications technology like texting, sometimes we lose that human element of communication.
Any time we can reconnect with each other using our actual voice, it should be a good thing. Which is why we all should embrace the ability to communicate with one another, even when we are immersed in the digital worlds of space aliens and quasi-futuristic battlescapes.
So when you or your kids are immersing yourselves in the digital realm, you are probably going to want the best communication tools possible. This is where the new Turtle Beach® Recon 200 gaming headset comes in. Whether you are playing on the Xbox One or PS4TM the Recon 200 headset delivers high-quality game sound and crystal-clear chat thanks to its pair of 40mm speakers that deliver powerful amplified audio with enhanced bass. They also work great with Nintendo SwitchTM, PC, and mobile devices.
The synthetic leather-wrapped memory foam cushions and rechargeable batteries that can last for over 12-hours of gaming per use will enable gamers to communicate comfortably for hours.
We love the extra “bass boost” since you can hear and feel gameplay! The high-sensitivity mic picks up your voice easily, and you can mute yourself just by flipping the microphone up. There’s a metal-reinforced headband, and a rechargable battery that gives you up to 12 hours of gaming per charge. Look for them on Amazon.
Need a gift idea? The suggested retail price is just $59.95, and it can totally upgrade your gaming experience. Don’t miss these for holiday gift ideas for your little (or big!) gamer.
