Summer doesn’t end here at Walt Disney World. We were invited to check out Blizzard Beach last week, and it was the BEST way to end the summer. but, don’t let that fool you. Blizzard Beach is open year-round! Here’s how to plan your first trip.
While I feel like I may be a Disney expert, believe it or not, I had never gone to Blizzard Beach before. We had visited Typhoon Lagoon a few times in years past, but Blizzard Beach was completely a new Disney experience for us. I love to try new food, drinks, and attractions at Disney World, so this was such an amazing way to see, ride, and taste what the water parks have to offer. To say I was impressed is an understatement.
I have a seasonal pass to a different local water park, and Disney has now spoiled me. Blizzard Beach is DEFINITELY what a water park should be. From the minute we walked in and were greeted by Goofy, I knew this would be an above and beyond experience.
Blizzard Beach Tips
Parking is a breeze and free. It makes the entire day feel more affordable since you don’t have to worry about paying an additional fee to park. However, it has been known that on certain busy days that the lot does fill up and you will be redirected to another location to park. Keep that in mind if you’re planning to attend on a holiday weekend or a particularly busy summer day.
You can rent a locker, but you might not need to. We found an abundance of lawn chairs scattered around the park, so we were able to easily store our stuff in a “safe” place.
Ride the BEST rides first. Skip the lazy river first thing and head up the chair lift to find the busier slides and tube rides like Summit Plummet and Teamboat Springs. You won’t regret it! As the day goes on and gets busier, the lines get longer.
Don’t miss the lazy river! Before you end the day, make sure you hop in. It’s almost a mile long!
Is your child not a strong swimmer? No worries! My son is not quite there yet with his swimming, but I felt very comfortable with him in a life jacket and inside Tike’s Peak. It’s a children’s area (under 48″) with age-appropriate slides, tube rides, and more. We could have easily stayed here all day.
Look into the refillable beer mugs if you want a cold brew. Any time that you can spot a bargain at Disney, be sure to take it! The refillable mugs make it more affordable to enjoy a sunny day at the park.
The nachos are a must! We found them at Frostbite Freddy’s, and I demolished them as an afternoon snack. The pork was perfect, and the portions were HUGE for the price. It’s a great value.
Bring sunscreen and reapply throughout the day.
Wear water shoes. For real! The concrete can get hot and make walking between attractions uncomfortable.
Don’t forget to relax. Blizzard Beach has thought of everything to make your day comfortable. Enjoy it! Stop by the Polar Pub for a frozen cocktail (like this daiquiri), and take in the views.
On our next trip, we won’t miss the mini donuts (definitely a popular snack here!). I also hope that I’ll be able to try some of the more daring slides. I kept it cool in Melt-Away Bay (their version of a wave pool with rafts) and connected with a few friends over cocktails. We arrived at opening and stayed until about 4 p.m. We could have easily stayed until closing, so consider that when planning your trip.
