Almost as exciting as opening the presents under the tree on Christmas morning is the compilation of the wish list for Santa Claus. Like the actual unwrapping, there is excitement and anticipation for all the possibilities. As a tech-savvy household, the annual Best Buy holiday gift guide is a pretty big deal in our house to see what the newest toys and gadgets are that could end up under the tree (or whatever holiday tradition you and your family subscribe to).
After receiving this year’s catalog, we let our son put together his Christmas wishlist, with a little wishful thinking from Dad as well. Here are his top picks for his favorite toys for this holiday season available from Best Buy.
LEGO Minecraft Building Set: LEGOs are always a safe bet when it comes to gifts for your kids and these Minecraft themed sets were the first thing he circled. He has become obsessed with the Minecraft video game so he really wanted his own “crafting table.” I’m not even sure what that means. The jungle temple set features vine detailing and a jungle tree to serve as a backdrop for play, and the included minifigures let you act out creative scenarios right out of the game.
We also love this Batman set too!
HASBRO Trolls: Need an easy stocking stuffer? These Troll Blind Boxes are perfect. My kid has really got into collecting these figurines from these sort of mystery boxes this year. Personally, I can’t handle that stupid Justin Timberlake song any more but my kid loves the movie. Each package contains one of 12 troll figurines to start their collection.
Sphero BB-8 Droid: The Sphero droids have been on his mind since before we got the catalog thanks to all the Disney adventures where he have to exit through the gift shop after the ride. I have to admit they are pretty cool. Just connect to a compatible Apple® iOS or Android device to guide your own miniature voice-activated BB-8 Droid.
Recoil Laser Tag: We’ve had some epic Nerf gun fights this year but this takes it to a whole other level and you don’t have to worry about losing the little foam darts to reload. It includes two pistols and a Wi-Fi router that lets up to 16 players participate at a time, and it uses a dedicated smartphone app that keeps track of ammo and other stats. The app even gives you a full immersive experience with communication links and GPS-based battlefield mapping.
Funko POP! Ragnarok Hulk: Speaking of collectibles, our kid has developed a Funko addiction that is getting pretty respectable. With Thor: Ragnarok in theatres now, the Hulk has been his favorite Avenger of the moment so the Gladiator version went right on his wish list. This figurine stands 3.75 inches and comes in a window box for mint-condition display if keeping them in the box is your thing.
SkyRocket Spider-Man Drone: I bought our son his own drone for his birthday. It was sort of a cheap training model but I wanted to make sure he had something to practice with before spending more any real money on something that could easily crash into the neighbor’s pool. Although he might still be a little too novice to operate it completely, this quadcopter is the next step up from his beginner drone. Plus, it’s Spider-man. The authentic design of this Sky Viper Spider-Drone toy is styled after Dronie from the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie. It has auto and manual flight modes to suit beginners and advanced fliers, and its flight assist functions let you land and hover smoothly.
After checking out Best Buy’s selection of drones, I think Daddy found his wish list item: The GoPro Karma Quadcopter. I’ve been eyeing the new GoPro Hero 6 since it was released this year and Best Buy has a package deal that includes the camera and its flagship quadcopter drone. Plus, it has a detachable stabilizer gimbal that can be used anywhere. Hey Santa, if you are listening, I’ve been a good boy this year.
What is on your holiday wish list this year?
