You probably have rituals every day and don’t even realize it. You may walk the dog everyday at noon, indulge in a glass of wine every Thursday, or go to bed at the same time every night. Maybe you wake up every morning to the sound of your alarm, turn it off, drink a cup of coffee, write in your daily planner, and hit the gym. Rituals are important because they bring us peace. Our busy days crave habit, and a reliable routine can help us get more things done. I recently read that those with a morning routine tend to be happier and healthier; they usually wake up earlier, exercise more often, and worry less. Keep reading to learn more about jump starting your own morning routine with help from my friends at siggi’s dairy.
Start the Day off Right:
Some mornings you might feel more productive than others. The easiest way to stay on track is to do the same things in the same order every morning. That might mean taking a shower and enjoying your coffee in the kitchen afterwards. Or maybe it’s a combination of meditation and journaling. Over time, these actions become habits that keep you focused and set you up for a great day!
Wake Up Early and Enjoy Breakfast
Don’t start the day late. When you wake up early, you have time to enjoy breakfast and a few quiet moments to yourself. You can read the morning paper or finish that book chapter from the night before. Most importantly, you can make time for breakfast and a fresh cup of coffee or tea, and therefore avoid sodas or energy drinks later in the day.
One of my morning routines is to have a simple breakfast that nourishes me well into the early afternoon. I like to look for products that feature simple ingredients and not a lot of sugar, and siggi’s fits the bill. siggi’s yogurt is a thick, strained, Icelandic yogurt–or skyr. It’s all-natural and contains no artificial preservatives, thickeners, sweeteners, flavors, or colors.
I like to top mine with oats, flaxseed, and chia seeds because it makes breakfast taste like rich, overnight oats. siggi’s fresh flavor is creamy though, so toppings are totally optional, which makes it a great “go-to” breakfast food. siggi’s offers lots of variety, and that helps take some of the guesswork out of breakfast.
I know this sounds hard, but try to start your day off WITHOUT your smartphone. When I use my phone’s alarm, I immediately start scrolling through social media after I wake up. This disrupts productivity before the day even begins! Instead, try using the do not disturb function on your phone more frequently. I’ve started using it, and I no longer receive notifications or chat messages throughout the day. It’s a relief!
