I may have grown up in Florida, but I didn’t earn my sea legs until I was an adult. I never really took cruises or explored the Gulf of Mexico on a boat until I was much older. Because of this, I think I have a severe sensitivity to the motion of the ocean. Motion sickness is no joke, but I’ve never let it stand in the way of experiencing the outdoors. I just planned accordingly. Keep reading for a list of my favorite Florida fishing spots along with a few tips for conquering a deep sea fishing adventure!
My husband is quite the outdoorsman. From fishing to diving, he basically lives in the water. I might be a bit skittish of snorkeling or scuba diving, but fishing is the one thing that I can do. However, if you’ve experienced the up and down motion of a fishing charter boat you might be able to relate. Being far out into the water, moving frequently to cast our lines, and sitting in the boat while we rock back and forth can make anyone a little bit queasy.
However, I made sure to plan accordingly this time around and participate in the Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals No More Missed Moments Challenge. I couldn’t miss out on yet another excursion with my husband. I wanted to see the blue water and catch dinner. Who wouldn’t?!
Motion sickness is a common condition that affects millions of people – including more than half of women (54%) – but many sufferers don’t do anything to treat it, or treat it with the wrong products. Women are more prevalent to suffer from motion sickness and Dramamine recently conducted a national survey to see what they are avoiding and what they would like to do but don’t because of motion sickness. The top results include:
- 53 percent avoid the highway for road trips
- 51 percent do not go on rides at amusement parks
- 50 percent stay home instead of going on a cruise
Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals is the first non-drowsy natural solution for motion sickness from Dramamine®, the leaders in motion sickness treatment. Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals contains the clinically-tested ginger dosage required for preventing and treating motion sickness, unlike many other sources of ginger that motion sickness sufferers frequently try, like ginger ale, candies and gums. Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals helps prevent and relieve motion sickness symptoms like nausea and vomiting, which products like antacids and upset stomach relievers do not. And since it’s made from natural ginger, it is safe to use every day you travel.
So, deep sea fishing is back on the agenda since I have something to fight that awful feeling of motion sickness. We headed out on a fishing boat outside of Islamorada in the Florida Keys to explore!
As for my experience with Dramamine®, I always take it before a fishing trip. Before I even get on the boat, I make sure to take it and apply sunscreen. It’s kind of a routine now. My fishing trip in the Florida Keys was flawless. I never felt sick once, and I was not drowsy at all. The last time I went fishing on a boat (about three years ago), I was SO sick from the motion. I had forgotten to take anything, and I regretted it instantly. I think a lot of people underestimate just how much the boat moves, and if you aren’t used it you can get ill fast.
