Today’s post would have been kind of awkward had the Royals lost last night. You see, today I’m sharing the ultimate ball park hot dog. A hot dog that is piled high with tangy BBQ flavor and sweet cole slaw. I can’t take all the credit for this creation. My husband is a connoisseur of baseball stadium food, and he has seemingly found the best recipe for spicing up your hot dogs.
I can’t share the story of this recipe without my husband’s words on his favorite sport (and favorite team), so here is how this delicious dinner was created:
The last time the Royals won the World Series title, Steve Balboni was a major reason why.
In 1985, Balboni was an unlikely hero. Already overweight and sporting one of the greatest mustaches in baseball history, Balboni set the team record for home runs that year with 36 — a mark that even withstood the steroid era. A lifetime .229 hitter, Balboni hit .320 in the Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
He became a bit of a cult hero among Royals fans. He looked nothing like a professional athlete yet the Royals probably wouldn’t have won the title that year without him.
It seemed only right to name this baseball-themed creation after him.
The Balboni dog is a variation of the Carolina dog. Start with a smoked beer brat with ketchup and mustard, throw on some creamy cole slaw and top it off with a heaping helping of barbecued beef brisket . Boom. Say “Bye, Bye” to whatever diet you were attempting this postseason.
It is definitely some that will help you work on a belly that would make Balboni proud and the brisket helps give it a Kansas City slant.

Anyway, we used Farm Rich Smokehouse products for these dogs, and the pulled beef brisket in a sweet and smoky BBQ sauce was the perfect topping.
- Hot Dogs or Beer Bratwursts, grilled or boiled
- 1 cup of cole slaw, prepared
- 1 package of Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ Beef Brisket
- Ketchup and mustard, optional
- Prepare hot dogs or beer brats as desired.
- Heat up Farm Rich product according to package instructions.
- Top with cole slaw and BBQ Beef Brisket.
- Add additional toppings to your liking, including ketchup, relish, mustard, or anything else you can think of!
