Do you know how to impress a toddler at his birthday party? Fill a kiddie pool with water, soap, and throw in a hula hoop. Consider it the best birthday yet.
My son has a fascination with bubbles, and in fact, “bubbles” was one of his first words. He can’t get enough of bath time bubbles, bubbles in the pool, or bubbles at the park. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles. When I was planning his second birthday party, I knew I had to incorporate his favorite thing in the whole wide world. Luckily, I found this outdoor activity idea on Palmolive’s website. One jumbo bubble wand, coming up!
It is the perfect activity for a summer day, but since we live in Florida…we can set this up year round! It was so much fun to get together with friends and family to celebrate my little one’s birthday, and this kid’s activity gave his party a little something extra.
Just look at that face! He was so excited! So, here’s how to make your own giant bubbles.
Giant Bubble Maker
- Kiddie pool
- Warm water
- Hula hoop
Set up your kiddie pool and add ½ cup of Palmolive, ½ gallon of warm water, and 1 TBSP of glycerin (keep ratio to fill bottom portion of kiddie pool). Make sure it’s enough to cover the hula-hoop when placed inside the pool. Lay the hula-hoop inside the pool evenly and gently lift to create a giant bubble!
Now, we adjusted the proportions since we filled up the kiddie play to play in. However, it still worked out just fine.
It goes without saying that you should totally have adult supervision at all times around this activity, and be sure to rinse your hands after using. Be careful not to rub or touch your eyes as well.
My toddler just couldn’t help himself. He was so excited about the bubbles that he literally just HOPPED right on in.
After using the hula hoop for awhile, we tried hangers too. What can you make a bubble wand with?
The hula hoop did offer up the most bubble power though.
I’m pretty sure this is going to become the main attraction at any of our house parties. Bubbles, bubbles everywhere!
