Whether you’re a blogger or an entrepreneur, some days we just get burned out. Whether it’s from eating the wrong food or not sleeping enough, the first thing to go when we don’t take care of ourselves is our creativity. I’ve had long discussions about this with my husband (who is a writer). He needs his sleep in order to write his best, just like I need an iced coffee as soon as I wake up. We all have our triggers for feeling our best and for finding inspiration to work our hardest. I wanted to talk about creating content when you’re a blogger. It’s a topic I’ve been thinking a lot about lately since I’ve been working with other bloggers and businesses on writing blog posts and setting up social media campaigns. Sometimes…you’ve just run out of ideas.
I don’t truly believe that one person is ever so uninspired that they can’t write on their blog. Is there nothing to say? Have you run out of stories to tell? I admit I’m not at my best in the late evenings or weekends. I do my best writing in the early morning or afternoon. When I feel drained, there are a few things that help “add sparkle” to my everyday routine. If you’re feeling uninspired to write or have no idea what to practice your photography on, try some of these ideas. They might spark something that gets your creativity flowing. Or, at the very least, it is nice to look at pretty things.
5 Ways to Add Sparkle to Your Everyday Life
1. Enjoy a sweet treat.
In the early afternoon, a pick me up is necessary! I don’t always splurge on cupcakes from fancy bakeries, but sometimes it’s a must. We have a local bakery nearby that offers a variety of flavors for under $4. I’m also surprised that my local grocery store has fresh, jumbo cupcakes as well. I picked up this peanut butter cupcake (with a chocolate filling!) today for lunch. Whoever said cupcakes can’t be for lunch was lying.
Do you write in a journal? While I’m quite partial to my Emily Ley journal, I do love the open-ended inspiration that Gadanke Journals provide. This jounal pictured above, A Note to Say Hi, is a card and letter holding journal. It’s the best of both worlds. Use the tabbed sections to collate your cards and explore yourself with the writing prompts.
This journal is run on friendship, family, and love. Do you still send snail mail to your friends? There is never a better time to start (or to organize the letters you have). Journaling in this journal, or any journal, can do wonders for your creativity. Just brain dump and go!
3. Update your office supplies.
If you love the space you work, you might be more inspired to make it a habit of using it to write. While sometimes my office is a cluttered mess, there are certain things about it that I do love. I love the large bright white desk. I love my tall bookcase filled with memories and old books. I love my drawers of arts and crafts items and party supplies. When my space is clean and my mind is clear, I find that I’m able to do the best work. It also helps to have a few bright things to make me smile.
A washi tape dispenser? Why not.
I also own basically every color in the rainbow as a permanent marker. Sharpie, Bic…I don’t discriminate.
4. Grab a vase of colorful flowers.
It goes without saying that fresh flowers are a must. I am still learning my camera settings, and I use flowers to help me out. They also give me something pretty to photograph. I have to admit, I never have to worry about finding a stock photograph for a blog post. I try to just take my own with things around my house.
5. Try some fresh fruit.
Instead of food that drains you (say no to the potato chips!), try refreshing your body with fresh fruit. I like to drink Canada Dry sparkling seltzer water with fresh berries to cool off during these humid Florida afternoons. Canada Dry is tasty on its own, and there are a few flavors to try. I’ve had both the Lemon Lime and the Pomegranate Cherry (my favorite so far!). I still need to try the Triple Berry!
Extra blueberries for me please!
I found Canada Dry near the carbonated waters at my local Walmart.
If you’re ready to go out to Walmart and find the Canada Dry Sparkling Seltzer Water for yourself! This bubbly beverage is sure to boost your creativity!
Creativity means different things to different people. Yet, I do find that colorful items and journaling helps spark my imagination. What would be on your list of creative boosters? Hopefully my list helped inspire you, and come to think of it, they aren’t bad blog topics if you’re experiencing blogger’s block.
