Becoming a mom for the first time can be an overwhelming time in a woman’s life. I remember that I was basically in a haze for weeks, and I wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself. I neglected to take care of my hair, skin, and body. I forgot to shower, I didn’t go outside, I took naps whenever I could. Since I know what it is like to go through this hectic time, I like to surprise my friends with gifts that are silly, helpful, and just plain fun. It is important to remember to bathe and brush your hair, and don’t forget about feminine care. After several months of not having to worry about a monthly visitor, the time has come for it to return (depending on your body, of course!). If you know someone who is due with a little one soon or is a new mom, brighten her day with these gift ideas.
Gifts don’t have to cost a lot to be meaningful. Small, sentimental items can carry weight and show someone that they matter. It is a whirlwind after giving birth, and there are moments when I wish I would have had some of these items to feel special again.
And, you may as well throw in a few feminine products for her use as well. These were certainly not on my shopping list before I had my son, and I ended up needing to run out to the store to grab a pack unexpectedly. The hospital only sent me home with so many!
I found Stayfree Ultra Thin Regular and Stayfree Overnight in the health and beauty section of my local Walmart. In fact, you can score a $5 Walmart eGift card reward when you buy any 3 products (Stayfree, Carefree, or o.b.). Read more online: http://www.drvsusa.com/keepmoving. After buying these packages, I found some sweet candy, fresh flowers, and a few other essentials for this new mom gift basket.
I put everything in a drawstring linen bag. I love the idea of using a canvas tote or bag that can be customized with paint and stencils to celebrate the new mom. Add her name, sprinkle a bit of glitter, or just add a few poms poms or fabric scraps for decorations. The flower above is stationary. I use those as thank you cards since they’re simple and oh so sweet.
Find fun childhood candy like bright Starburst and this Bottle Pop. I thought it was appropriate for my new mom friend! I also shared eos lip balm (my personal favorite!).
Something to make any woman feel a bit more special is to gift a beauty subscription box, like this one from ipsy. It’s one of my favorites. Just the simple act of receiving makeup to try–new lip gloss, perfume, and a makeup bag–can show someone that you care. You don’t have to be a new mom to enjoy this one, but one of the ways I felt more like myself after birth was with makeup and a hair straightener.
The “You are Loved” book is a baby journal from Gadanke. Gift the new mom a place to write her feelings and all the details of her new day-to-day life. Encourage her to keep track of her little one’s special moments, and add in cards and notes. The great thing about these journals is that they are binder rings so you can add in papers and cards.
