I’ll admit, I love all my gadgets when I am on the road. Whether it is for work or pleasures I’m attached to the tiny pieces of technology that make life just a little bit simpler. One of the things I’ve noticed as a journalist is that the things I use for work also come in handy when you are on a family vacation at an Orlando theme park. After all, both require being able to document and capture specific moments in time that once they are over, they are gone forever. Also, there will be moments when your patience is tested and time will be of the essence.
Trust me, the stress of being on deadline is nothing compared to having to make it all the way across the park in time to use your fast passes. Here are five essential journalist-approved gadgets everyone should pack for their next adventure.
Dad Approved Theme Park Essentials
Portable camera: My action camera gets quite a workout whether I am on the job or on vacation. It’s not an exaggeration when I say it goes seamlessly from shooting first-person perspectives for outdoors projects for my job to doing the same on a roller coaster. Having a variety of mounts is essential to getting your camera in a place to get those unforgettable moments. I once mounted my camera on the catcher’s mask to get an up-close look at a knuckleball pitcher. My personal favorite is one that is sewn directly into a baseball hat. It allows for hands-free operation whether I am kayaking down a river or following a four-year-old through an aquarium.
Headphones: One of the frustration parts about my job is transcribing lengthy interviews while the PA is blasting music and people are talking all around me. One of the frustrating parts about going on road trips is having to listen to my kid’s portable game system for hours on end in the back seat. A good set of closed-ear headphones helps in both of those situations. I suggest the wireless variety that also has an auxiliary wire to use in case the battery runs out. This will make your road trip to the theme park much more enjoyable.
Vapor device: Do you know what every spring training stadium in Florida have in common with most major theme parks? Most of them don’t allow smoking or vaping, but if they do its in tiny, cordoned off sections. As a smoker, I don’t always have time to take a five-minute smoke break. That’s why I suggest the new Cue™ Vapor System when you are on the go.
Whether you are an experienced vapor user or someone who is interested in giving vaping a try, this is an ideal system if you want convenience. The simple design of this system allows anyone to take it out of the box, insert a cartridge, and start vaping. The cartridges come in a variety of flavors and nicotine levels with pre-filled, disposable cartridge. That’s all you need for the simplest premium vapor experience. The Cue™ Vapor System provides vape-shop performance without the complexity.
How to Use
GPS: Granted most everyone has some form of navigation tool on their phone but I like having a separate screen to direct me where to go because, whether it is on the way to an assignment or trying to locate your Orlando hotel, my phone is usually being used for several different tasks at any given moment, even if it is just to play music. Not to mention it really drains both your battery and data limits.
Portable device charger: Of course, all of your gadgets are going to need juice and there is a good chance that you will be far away from any available electrical outlets. Make sure you have a charger that holds enough of a charge to re-power multiple devices.
