It’s almost that wonderful time of year for every baseball fan. That time when you get to see if that hot prospect you’ve been watching all spring is ready to shine in the big time or if that late bloomer with the breakout season last year is for real. Nope, it’s not Opening Day. It is time to draft your fantasy teams.
For me, the fantasy baseball season is a tradition that dates back 18 years to my freshman year of college. Many of my friends who started in the league that year are still here nearly two decades later. If you want your fantasy season to be successful, it all starts with the draft party. While some people opt for holding their draft at a sports bar, as the commissioner, I prefer to host a draft party at my own place. Many of us have since spread across the state — and country — since the early days of my league so we have to draft online but those that are local get to huddle up with our mobile devices, eat good food and watch marathons of your favorite baseball-themed movies while you openly criticize your friend who vastly overreached for a closer in the 3rd round without offending diners that are just trying to eat their chicken wings in peace. We are hardcore baseball fans so the commentary tends to get pointed and unsuitable for the general public.
First, everyone needs a mobile device that they can draft from. If you are due for a new phone, you should head to Walmart to maximize your tax return and score a powerful phone. We looked at the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan = Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G plus a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value) per line for $49.88. We added the SIM Kit for just $19.88.
Includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE† data then 2G
We decided on the Samsung Galaxy On5 which is on rollback for $69. Best of all, the Android platform will run nearly every popular fantasy baseball app so you can draft right from your phone. And when you set up your plan, you’ll also get a coupon for a free movie download from Vudu ($7 value). This credit is good for a new release or your favorite baseball movie classics. This will take care of the entertainment aspect of the party. You can stream your favorites on your television while you draft your favorite players.

The larger data bucket of 10GB of 4G LTE data helps us stay connected to our fantasy baseball draft, and we never miss a beat!
Of course, no party is complete without food. Since nothing says baseball like brats and sausage, making your own brat bar is an easy way to get in the spirit while feeding a large crowd of people. That’s why they are a ballpark staple in the first place.
Here are some combinations that will make you feel right at home plate.
