Whether you are thinking about selling your home in the future or want to upgrade your current living space, there are a few simple home upgrades that you can make to spruce up your house this summer! Liven up your landscaping and make small adjustments indoors to optimize your accommodations. Here are a few tips to help you brighten and boost your home.
The simplest, and most forgotten, tip for home improvement is to add color. Whether it’s simply repainting a wall that needs freshening up or adding an accent wall in an office, paint can make a huge difference. When summer hits, I try to add splashes of aqua and yellow around my house. You can brighten up your house with throw pillows, an accent rug, and new kitchen towels. You can also add fun trim color to your baseboards or try painting something more unusual, like your stairs.
Step Up Your Yard
If you are lucky enough to have a space big enough for entertaining, now is the time to clean up your patio! Set a table with comfortable chairs in your backyard or in a shady spot on your deck. Use utensil holders and fresh linens for color. Set up potted plants, like succulents, atop the table to make it inviting.
You can also add a colorful wooden bench or a comfy set of deck chairs for more seating. Twinkle lights strung among the branches of trees will also add to the summertime atmosphere.
Here in Florida, we also have to worry about nighttime bugs like mosquitos or no-see-ums. The best thing to try is a citronella candle or a special lantern designed to deter pests.
Water, Water Everywhere
You can bring a simple summer upgrade to your house with a new fountain outside in your garden or with a fish tank inside containing colorful fish. Water can be calming, and the addition of either item will add a relaxing look to your space.
Add a summer wreath to your front door, and invest in a few hanging ferns. You can also grow your own vegetables and herbs from hanging planters. I add a small table near the front door for any packages or to display a festive flower in a summer shade of pink or yellow.
Upgrade Your A/C
Our air conditioning is always running during the Florida summertime. If yours will be, too, it is very important to have a unit that not only is functioning properly but that also is modern, offering more features than just the basic ones. You can upgrade your thermostat with a high-tech option that offers touch controls and helps your cooling system run more efficiently. You can also set different temperatures for various rooms in your home — and some of these high-tech options even run on a wireless connection. As a certified gadget aficionado, I think these are perfect for our Florida house. Learn more about these high-tech thermostats, and prepare to be impressed.
Since we recently moved into a new home, many of these ideas have already been implemented in my house! What’s your best summertime home decor tip?
